Marriage Certificate Translation for UK Visa Applications

It's the document UKVI looks at first. Without it, the spouse visa case isn't even started. With it, the rest of the file hangs off it. So it's worth getting the translation right the first time.

Marriage certificates are one of the document types where 'just translate it' goes wrong fastest. A Pakistani Nikah Nama isn't a civil marriage certificate. It's an Islamic legal contract. The terms (mehr, wali, witnesses) must be translated precisely or the whole document loses meaning. A Hindu marriage certificate carries different weight in different states. A Sikh Anand Karaj certificate has its own conventions.

Civil marriage certificates fit on one or two pages — £12.99 to £25.98 in most cases. Nikah Namas and other religious contracts run longer. Three or four pages of detailed terms is common, so they usually come in at £38.97 to £51.96.

Spouse visa applicants often need a stack of documents: marriage certificate plus both birth certificates plus six months of bank statements. The per-page rate stays flat across the order. There is no volume discount, but there is also no surcharge as the page count climbs.
