Payslips are where the spouse visa financial requirement is won or lost. Sponsors with comfortably sufficient salaries still get queried, because six months of payslips in Spanish, Polish or Arabic arrived without a proper translation, or because the figures didn't line up with the bank statements. Earning above the £29,000 threshold is the easy part; proving it on paper is where files wobble.

We translate payslips from any country for spouse visa applications and UK mortgage applications, with every line rendered and a signed statement of accuracy attached. Most applicants also need an employment letter translation and matching bank statements. Order them together and the whole set reads consistently.

Do I need my payslips translated for a UK spouse visa?

Yes, if they're not in English or Welsh. Salaried sponsors usually evidence the £29,000 financial requirement with payslips covering six months (Category A) or twelve months (Category B), and every non-English payslip in that period needs a certified translation.

The £29,000 minimum income requirement has applied since 11 April 2024. Category A applies if the sponsor has been with their current employer for at least six months: payslips covering the six months before the application, with the most recent dated no earlier than 28 days before you apply. Category B applies if they've been in the current job for less than six months: they need to be earning at the threshold now and to have earned it over the previous twelve months, so the payslip run stretches to a year.

The translation rule is the same either way: every payslip in the window, fully translated. A gap is more dangerous than a language problem. If one month is missing, the caseworker sees five months of evidence, not six, and caseworkers are very good at counting to six. If the sponsor works abroad and is returning to the UK with you, the rules on counting overseas income are specific, so check the Appendix FM guidance or take advice; whatever applies, the foreign-language payslips still need translating. • Category A: six months of payslips from the same employer
  • Category B: payslips covering the previous twelve months
  • Most recent payslip dated no earlier than 28 days before you apply
  • No gaps — every month in the window
  • Name on each payslip should match the passport (we note transliterations)

What does a payslip translation need to show?

Everything on the payslip: employer name and registration details, employee name and ID, pay period and payment date, each earning and deduction line, gross and net pay, and the bank account the pay went to. Figures stay in the original currency.

Payslips are dense with terms that have no neat UK equivalent: a Spanish 'paga extra', a German 'Weihnachtsgeld', a Polish 'składka zdrowotna', an Italian 'tredicesima' (a thirteenth month's salary, a concept the UK payroll world has never quite adopted). We translate each term accurately and, where the meaning isn't obvious to a UK reader, add a brief translator's note. That matters because caseworkers and underwriters need to tell basic pay from bonuses, allowances and one-off payments.

We don't convert currencies or pre-calculate an annual figure. UKVI applies its own exchange rate when it assesses the evidence, and lenders use their own; a translator's figure would only add a number that doesn't match. Decimal commas and local date formats are rendered consistently, with a note where the convention changes.

  • Employer name, address and tax or registration number
  • Employee name, ID and job title
  • Pay period and payment date
  • Basic pay, overtime, bonuses and allowances
  • Income tax, social security and other deductions
  • Gross pay, net pay and destination bank account

How do payslips match up with bank statements and the employer letter?

Each payslip's net pay should appear as a credit on the bank statement for the same month, and the gross salary should match what the employer letter confirms. UKVI reads the three together, so the translations need to make that match easy to see.

The spouse-visa financial check is a reconciliation exercise, conducted by someone who enjoys reconciliation exercises. The employer letter anchors the salary; the payslips show it being paid; the bank statements show it arriving. If the net figure on May's payslip doesn't match the credit on May's statement, perhaps because of a one-off deduction, the caseworker will want to know why.

Translating the full set together helps in two ways. The employer name, your name and the account number are rendered identically on every document, and the translator can flag anything that looks inconsistent before you submit. See employment letter translation for what the letter must confirm, and our guide to payslip translation for the spouse visa for worked examples.

Do UK mortgage lenders need payslips translated?

Yes, if they're not in English. Lenders use payslips to verify your income and how it's made up — basic pay, overtime, bonuses — and an underwriter can only count income they can read. Most ask for your most recent few months; your broker will confirm.

Lenders look more closely at the breakdown than UKVI does. Many treat basic salary differently from bonus, commission or overtime, so a payslip translation that merges those lines can understate what you earn, which is the one kind of modesty an underwriter won't reward. We keep each line separate and labelled as on the original.

Alongside payslips, lenders usually want an annual figure confirmed by a third party: in the UK that's a P60, elsewhere it's an employer's year-end certificate or a tax-authority assessment. Our tax return translation page covers those.

How much does payslip translation cost?

Payslip translation costs from £15.59 per page. Most payslips are a single page, so six months of payslips usually comes to £93.54 and twelve months to £187.08.

Some employers issue two-page payslips with a detailed breakdown of allowances and contributions; those are charged per page at the same rate. There's no surcharge for language or script, and the price includes the statement of accuracy and PDF delivery.

If you're short on time, whether it's a UKVI request for more information with a tight deadline or a mortgage offer about to expire, same-day rush is available at £29.99 per page.

  • Six single-page payslips: £93.54
  • Twelve single-page payslips: £187.08
  • Same-day rush: £29.99 per page

Frequently Asked Questions About Our Payslip Translation UK

My payslips are partly in English. Do they need translating?

If any line is in another language, whether a deduction, an allowance or the employer's details, the payslip needs a certified translation. Only a payslip that's entirely in English can be submitted as it is.

Does the employer letter need translating too?

Yes, if it's not in English. The employer letter is a key piece of spouse-visa evidence and must be translated in full, including the letterhead, signatory's name and position, and any company stamp.

What if one month's payslip is missing?

Ask your employer's payroll team for a replacement before you apply; it's far easier now than after a caseworker has noticed. A reissued payslip is translated in exactly the same way as the original.

Will you convert my salary into pounds?

No. The translation keeps the original currency. UKVI and lenders apply their own exchange rates, so a pre-converted figure would only cause confusion.

Do you translate payslips in Arabic, Chinese and other non-Latin scripts?

Yes, every language at the same per-page rate. Names in non-Latin scripts are transliterated to match the spelling in your passport.

How long does payslip translation take?

A run of six or twelve payslips is normally delivered within 24 business hours. Same-day rush is available if you need them sooner.

Do I need a notarised payslip translation?

Not for UKVI: a certified translation with a signed statement of accuracy is enough. If a lender or overseas body specifically asks for notarisation, we offer that as a separate service.

Can I send photos of my payslips?

Yes. Clear phone photos work as well as scans, as long as every figure is readable. If anything is unclear, the translator will ask rather than guess.

Do you translate payslips for Skilled Worker or other visas?

Yes. Payslips are used as evidence across many routes, including ILR, extensions and dependant applications. The certified format is the same for all of them.
