A notarized translation for the US is a certified translation with one extra layer: a US notary public notarizes the translator's signed certification of accuracy. Some US universities, employers, DMVs, courts and state agencies ask for exactly that, and it tends to arrive as a single line in an email that leaves you wondering where on earth to find an American notary.

You don't need to find one. We translate the document, certify it, have it notarized by a US notary public and email you the notarized PDF. You order it online like any other certified translation, from the UK or anywhere else. And if your document is going to USCIS rather than a school or employer, read the next section first: you probably don't need notarization at all.

What is a notarized translation for the US?

It is a certified translation (a complete English translation plus the translator's signed certification of accuracy and competence) that a US notary public has then notarized. The notary confirms the signing of the certification; they don't check the translation itself.

The notary's job is narrower than most people assume. A notary public verifies the identity of the person signing the certification and records it with their seal. They don't speak your language, read the translation or vouch for its accuracy. That part is still down to the translator, which is why the certified translation underneath has to be right in the first place.

So a notarized translation is really two things stacked together: the translation and certification, which do the actual work, and the notarization, which an institution may want as extra formality. American paperwork has a soft spot for a seal. We provide both in one order.

  • A complete English translation, including stamps, seals and handwritten notes
  • The translator's signed certification of accuracy and competence
  • Notarization by a US notary public
  • Delivered as a digital notarized PDF

Who asks for a notarized translation in the US?

Some US universities and admissions offices, employers, DMVs, state courts, licensing boards, banks and state agencies. Requirements vary between institutions, so check the exact wording of your instructions. USCIS does not require notarization, and neither does UKVI.

There's no single US rule on notarized translations. Each institution sets its own, which is how you end up with a university that's happy with a certified translation and a DMV down the road that insists on a notary. If the instructions say "notarized translation", "notarized affidavit of accuracy" or "translation certified before a notary", this is the service you need.

If they only say "certified translation" or "translated by a professional", notarization isn't required and you can save the fee. For immigration filings, USCIS accepts a certified translation for USCIS without a notary, and so does the National Visa Center for police certificates. Our guide to getting a notarized translation from the UK goes through the wording institutions use.

  • US universities, colleges and admissions offices
  • Employers and HR onboarding teams
  • DMVs, for driver's licenses and ID cards
  • State courts and family law matters
  • Professional licensing boards
  • Banks, state agencies and vital records offices

How much does a notarized translation for the US cost?

The certified translation is $20.39 per page and US notarization adds $26.45 per document, charged in US dollars when you choose the United States as your destination. A one-page birth certificate with notarization is $20.39 plus $26.45.

Notarization is charged per document, not per page, so a three-page diploma and transcript set is notarized once per document rather than once per page. If you're sending five documents and only one institution wants a notary, you can notarize just that one and leave the rest as standard certified translations. Discount codes apply to the translation but never to the notarization fee.

If you're ordering under the UK option because you'll use the same translation in the UK too, the add-on is £20.00 per document on top of the £15.59 per page UK rate. You see the full total before you pay either way.

  • Certified translation: $20.39 per page
  • US notarization: $26.45 per document
  • Notarize every document or only the ones that need it
  • No appointment, travel or courier fees

How long does a notarized translation take?

Notarized orders are delivered on the standard timeline, by the next working day. Rush delivery isn't available with notarization, so leave a little time before your deadline.

The translation, certification and notarization all happen within the standard turnaround. What you can't do is combine notarization with rush delivery. If you need some documents urgently and only a few notarized, place two orders: rush for the urgent ones, standard with notarization for the rest.

Frequently Asked Questions About Our US Notarized Translation

Does USCIS require a notarized translation?

No. USCIS requires a complete English translation with the translator's certification of accuracy and competence, which our standard certified translation provides. Only add notarization if another US institution specifically asks for it.

Can I use the notarized translation for a UK visa or in another country?

The US notarization is for use in the United States only. UKVI and the Home Office don't require notarization, and other countries may need a local notary or a sworn translation instead. For the UK, a standard certified translation is what you need.

Can I notarize only some of my documents?

Yes. At checkout you say how many documents need notarization and tick which ones. You only pay the notarization fee for those documents.

Is the notarization fee per page or per document?

Per document. A multi-page document is notarized once, for $26.45 on a US order. The translation itself is charged per page.

Do I receive a paper copy?

You receive a digital notarized PDF by email. If your institution only accepts originals by post, check with them before ordering and message us on WhatsApp or email to talk it through.

Can I get rush delivery with notarization?

No. Notarized orders are standard delivery only. If part of your order is urgent, order those documents separately with rush delivery and notarize the rest.

Do discount codes reduce the notarization fee?

No. Discount codes apply to the translation price only. The notarization fee is charged in full for each notarized document.

Is notarization the same as an apostille?

No. Notarization confirms the signing of the translator's certification; an apostille is a separate government certificate that authenticates a public document for use abroad. If an institution has asked for an apostille, check exactly which document needs it before ordering.

Which languages can you translate and notarize?

We translate from 120+ languages into English, including Spanish, Chinese, Arabic, Hindi, Urdu, Portuguese, French and Polish, and the notarization is available for every language.
