A sworn birth certificate translation into Bulgarian turns your UK certificate into a Bulgarian-language document signed by a sworn translator (заклет преводач), with a certificate of accuracy written in Bulgarian. Bulgarian municipalities ask for one when they enter a birth abroad in the civil register, and it often turns up in residence-permit and nationality files too.
VisaDocTranslation translates the whole certificate, including any apostille attached to it, at £40.00 per page, delivered within 2 working days. Families registering a child often need a sworn marriage certificate translation as well, and our sworn Bulgarian translation page explains how the system works.
Bulgaria
Usually, yes. Bulgarian offices work in Bulgarian, so a UK birth certificate used for civil registration, residence or nationality generally needs an apostille and a translation into Bulgarian by a sworn translator. Check the exact requirement with the receiving office.
The most common case is a child born in the UK to a Bulgarian parent. The birth has to be entered in the Bulgarian civil register (through the municipality, or a Bulgarian consulate abroad) so the child gets a Bulgarian birth certificate and a personal number (ЕГН). The registrar draws up a Bulgarian record from your UK certificate, which is hard to do from a document they can't read.
Some offices also ask for the translation to be certified by the Consular Relations Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. That step happens in Bulgaria; ask the office whether they need it before you plan your timetable.
Most often to register a birth abroad with the civil register, for family members' residence permits, for Bulgarian nationality or Bulgarian-origin applications, and for marriages and inheritance matters.
Bulgarian-origin applications can reach back a generation or two, so a parent's or grandparent's certificate may be the one that matters. Each translated certificate is priced the same way, per page.
Names are transcribed into Cyrillic, and the Latin spelling from the original is kept alongside so officials can match the translation to your passport.
Bulgarian is written in Cyrillic, so "Smith" becomes "Смит" and so on. Transcription isn't always one-to-one (English spelling being what it is), which is why the original spelling stays visible next to the Cyrillic form. If a Bulgarian document already spells a family member's name in Cyrillic, tell us when you upload and we'll match it, so the same person doesn't end up with two spellings in one file.
£40.00 per page for a digital PDF, charged in pounds sterling, delivered within 2 working days. A UK birth certificate is usually one page, and an attached apostille is priced as a page of its own.
Translate the full (long-form) certificate: the short version leaves out the parents, which is the part a civil registrar cares about most. The price includes the translation, the sworn translator's signature, a quality check and 2 free revisions. Upload a clear scan on the online quote form to see your total before paying. The FCDO issues apostilles; our apostille translation page explains how the two fit together. Want it on paper too? Tick the signed paper copy at checkout: the translator prints it, signs it in ink and posts it by Royal Mail the next working day after your PDF, for £3.00 to a UK address or £8.00 anywhere else (one fee per order). Delivery times are Royal Mail's, not guaranteed.

Usually, yes. Get the apostille from the FCDO Legalisation Office first, then send us the certificate with it attached so both are translated.
The full certificate. Bulgarian civil registration and family procedures need the parents' details, which the short certificate doesn't show.
Some offices ask for that extra certification, which is done in Bulgaria. Check with the office receiving your documents.
